Training Medium Dogs

A well-trained dog is an asset to any household which is why proper training is so important. Making sure that your dog understands basic commands is essential to developing a mutually rewarding relationship with your dog.

Spending about 10 minutes training your pet daily will not only be fun for your dog, it will also give him the opportunity to learn to respect you as the "leader of the pack". Regular training will also help reduce destructive tendencies due to boredom

A complete training program should include housebreaking, basic obedience training and advanced training. Some general advice for training your dog are:

  1. Be consistent. Do not reward bad behaviour by petting or smiling at your dog even if you feel that his actions are cute or funny. And do not forget to praise your pet warmly or reward him whenever he has performed the command you gave correctly. If you forget to do so, he may not get the message that he is doing the right thing.
  2. Always use your dog's name to get his attention before issuing a command.
  3. Establish a fixed routine, let your pup know when is feeding time, sleeping time and play time.
  4. Be very patient wih your dog and never lose control in front of him. Remember just as you do not expect a new born baby to understand what you are saying, do not expect a dog to understand what you want him to do without going through some training time.
  5. Try to keep the training within 15 to 20 minutes maximum each day and always end the training on a positive note so that your dog will look forward to the next training session eagerly.
